Souk Sita

Souk Sita is a small residential area with a market, located next to the old military barracks, Giyada, which was built in 1955. Souk Sita borders Atlabara and Kator districts, and stretches along the barracks’ fence. The military background of this neighbourhood was reminded in a tragic manner to its residents in 2013, when five children were killed by the explosion of an old bomb while looking for scrap metal. Souk Sita was also the first neighbourhood to be affected by the current crisis in South Sudan: the fighting broke out in Giyada on December 15, 2013, and Souk Sita residents were among the first victims of the conflict.
